EMC Stripline Testing

ACS also uses a Stripline test setup to subject the Equipment Under Test (EUT) to RF Fields as required by various European Union product family standards, most notably EN 55020.  The construction of the Stripline is similar to that of an expanded coaxial cable where the shield of the cable is represented by the bottom (ground) plate and the center conductor is represented by the top plate.  The plates are made of aluminum and are of adequate size (length and width) to completely saturate the EUT.  A calibration over a frequency range is performed to determine the necessary input signal levels required to generate the fields required.  The EUT is placed between the plates and is subjected to the field as determined by the calibration.  The EUT is monitored to determine the level of “RF Immunity” the EUT Exhibits. Stripline's are sometimes used in lieu of large anechoic rooms where allowed because of their compact size, cost, and minimum equipment and power required to obtain the necessary fields relative to the anechoic rooms.
